Literary journals,Magazines & Little Magazines

Paris Review Interviews covers in yellow, blue, red and purpleA literary magazine or literary journal is a publication that focuses on publishing creative writing

Some include essays and criticism; some include other creative works like art or photography.  They may also publish book reviews, interviews and letters.

Some are published by universities, others by independent literary presses. They are sometimes called "little magazines" (which does not mean "lesser," but instead distinguishes them from mainstream or major presses.

Many cannot afford to pay their writers for submissions.  They are similar in that way to academic journals; for their authors being published carries its own reward.
