Broadly exploring the literature (the body of research that's been written on your topic) before selecting a topic or identifying a specific thesis, is an essential part of a college-level research process. This unit introduces several ways you can browse the available literature for topic ideas.
At the end of this unit, you will be able to:
- Identify multiple ways to browse the web for topic ideas.
- Use a variety of different media to explore potential topic areas.
- Determine whether the conversations about a topic area are scholarly, popular or both.
- Evaluate whether the conversations about potential topic area are still ongoing and developing, or whether consensus has been reached.
