Web of Science: Nuts, Bolts and Power Tools (Andrea Wirth)

- This workshop will cover a brief overview of what is indexed in Web of Science, using the search interfaces for topic, author, source title, and address searching, expanding your literature search using the unique Related Records search, using cited reference searching to navigate the literature , how to use Refine, Analyze Results, Citation Reporting, and Citation Maps, how to connect to full text from Web of Science, and tools available in Web of Science for managing your search process.

- Love the writing but hate formatting those citations? Wrapping up your thesis or dissertation this spring or summer? Learn to use basic but powerful features of the reference management tool, EndNote. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn to setup an EndNote library, save references and pdfs, automatically create and edit a bibliography, and prepare a document for publishing. This workshop is intended for novice EndNote users and is intentionally slow-paced and very interactive.

ICPSR (Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research) is the world's largest collection of digital social science data - www.icpsr.umich.edu. ICPSR data cover topics from sociology, political science, economics, demography, education, child care, health care, crime, minority populations, aging, terrorism, substance abuse, mental health, public policy, and international relations. This workshop can help you to increase your skills at searching, downloading and analyzing ICPSR data, or simply let you become more familiar with what ICPSR has to offer.

Heard about a variety of tools that allow for online and/or mobile PDF markup, searching of the notes you make, and easy sharing of these notes with collaborators? Come hear about how a variety of researchers use electronic tools in their own workflow to see which tools might work best for you. Tools discussed will include desktop and mobile options, such as Evernote, iAnnotate, Mendeley, Microsoft OneNote, Note Taker HD, Zotero and EndNote.

- Collecting data for your thesis or dissertation? Learn to manage your data effectively and efficiently! This seminar will provide an introduction to capturing, storing, and describing research data throughout the life of the research project and after. This is intended for those researchers who need help with a data management plan or for those who are just beginning a data management plan. The discussion will cover granting agencies’ requirements, how to fulfill them and how it is to the researcher’s advantage to do so.

- Learn how to use the free version of EndNote - EndNote Web! Discover how easy it is to keep track of your sources, import your references into Word documents and share your sources with others using web-based EndNote Web. This workshop is hands-on and very interactive. The session includes approximately 30 minutes for a follow-up Question & Answer period.

Advanced EndNote (Uta Hussong-Christian)

- In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn to: search OSU Libraries full-text journals and pull pdfs into an EndNote library, create smart groups, customize citation styles, add citation styles, customize the library window, annotate pdfs (available for X5 users), and create a library backup file.
All workshops are in the Autzen Classroom on the 2nd floor (main floor) of the Valley Library (unless otherwise noted).
