About this Guide

IB is a challenging and comprehensive pre-university course of study for high school juniors and seniors. IB courses are similar to the Advanced Placement courses (already offered at NHS), but the Diploma Program is a more complete course of study. Those students wishing to earn an IB diploma will take three two year and three one year IB courses from six academic areas. Students will take exams for these courses and must earn a combined score of twenty-four points. In addition, IB diploma students must write a 10 page research paper called Extended Essay, take a course called Theory of Knowledge and complete one hundred and fifty hours of Creativity, Action and Service (CAS). These CAS hours are earned outside of school and involve participation in sports, the arts and volunteering in the community.
