Use these catalogs to find books at OSU & elsewhere.

OSU Library Catalog: search for books located at Valley library and OSU's other libraries.

Summit Catalog: searches libraries in Oregon, Washington and throughout the world. Shows if OSU has the item. If we do not, request the item to be delivered to OSU in 3 business days if it is available via Summit. If Summit doesn't have it we'll find a library that does-just click the Request from Interlibrary Loan button.

Search tip: Summit lets you access "some* journal articles.

To find ethnographies search: ethnography Oregon
Search a group name or geographical name and Oregon for ex: Chinese Oregon
Click on the title to read the full record and then click on the subject headings or descriptors to find additional sources
Try multiple search terms for ex: Chicano or Chicana and Oregon or Mexican or Mexicano or Mexicana and Oregon

Stuck on what research path to take? Here is one example path:

1. Search the OSU library catalog. Click on a couple of titles that look relevant. Review the subject headings and if they describe your topic, click to find additional sources. Note: you may need to test out several different keywords before you settle on some.

2. Next do research for journal articles. by looking in the database Academic Search premier. Again, check out the subject headings for more resources.

3. If applicable, see if there are newspaper articles on your topic. Try the database called LexisNexis Academic.

At each step, evaluate your results for relevance to your topic: are the results too narrow or broad; do the results use terms that better describe your topic; do you get better results if you search using those terms?
