Use the right search tools...
Use online catalogs to find books or information about journals (but not to search for information in them)
Use databases to search for journal articles. From our Databases link, select the first letter from the alphabetic list if you already know the specific database you want to search, or change the drop down menu to pick a subject area and get a list of recommendations
Off-campus access to databases: "Computers connecting via private internet providers or from non-OSU sites will be prompted for a name and OSU ID before being forwarded to the selected resource."
- Call Computer Consulting, 737-7434, during business hours if you have problems
Finding and Getting Materials
1 Books (including chapters in edited books).
- Always search the OSU catalog first.
- If no catalog record is found or if our copy of the book is checked out, search the Summit catalog. You can usually locate the item in the regional catalog by clicking on the "Repeat in Summit" button. Then click on the "Request" link to have it delivered here.
- If you still don't find a copy, search WorldCat. Once you find the record there, order using the InterLibrary Loan (ILL) request link. (Note: you need to complete an Interlibrary Loan profile at: https://access.library.oregonstate.edu/ before making any ILL requests so the library can contact you when materials arrive.)
2 Articles:
- Do we subscribe to the journal in which the article was published? There may be a full-text link in the results list or a note telling you of the library's print subscription.
- If neither of these apply, click on the "Get this item" icon
- Then search the OSU Libraries catalog to see if we own it in print or provide electronic access. If there is a record(s), check the dates to see if our subscription covers the article's date of publication. If you don't find a record, double check the E-journals list just to be sure.
- If it's not available at OSU electronically or in print, click on the OSU ILL link under InterLibrary Loan--remember you must already have an ILL account set up.
