Books are likely to be a useful resource for your research. Check the OSU Libraries catalog for books available at both Cascades and in Corvallis. Are you in Bend and need a book from Corvalllis? Click the Request button in the catalog record.
Search the Summit Catalog for books available from other academic libraries in Oregon and Washington.
If you need something that you can't find in either catalog, you can order it through Interlibrary Loan .
Finding Newspaper Articles
Newspaper articles can be a great source for information about current social and cultural issues. Try these databases for newspaper (and magazine) articles. If the full-text is not listed, use the catalog to search for a paper or an electronic version.
Alternative Press Index: index to alternative, radical and left periodicals, newspapers and magazines.
Lexis Nexis: international and national newspapers. Be sure to change the date limit to All Available Dates.
Newspaper Source: provides selected full text for 143 U.S. and international newspapers.
PressDisplay: even more international and national newspapers, only last 60 days, best with Internet Explorer
Smart searching
When searching in catalogs and databases:
- Be creative in the words you use; if one doesn't work, try something else
- Begin with keywords, and use the subjects found in the articles that come up to find more information
- Use quotation marks around phrases
- Use catalog and database features to limit by date, language, type of article, etc.

Academic Search Premier - The place to start for most searches. ASP contains full text articles for thousands of scholarly publications on all subjects, in addition to magazines and newspapers
AnthroSource - Full text access to most of the publications of the American Anthropological Association
Abstracts in Anthropology - Abstracts only, but very comprehensive! Check our catalog to see if we own the journal containing the article.
Sociological Abstracts - A mix of full-text and abstracts, this will expand your search beyond the anthropology literature into sociology, which can be a great resource for cultural issues.
Lexis Nexis - Comprehensive index to newspaper and magazine articles, radio and TV news program transcripts, legal material and other reference sources. Primarily focused on news, business and legal topics. See also Lexis Nexis Statistical.
