Smart searching
When searching in catalogs and databases:
- Be creative in the words you use; if one doesn't work, try something else
- Begin with keywords and use the subjects to find more information
- Use quotation marks around phrases
- Use catalog and database features to limit by date, language, type of article, etc.
Getting Books
Books are likely to be a useful resource for your research. Check the OSU Libraries catalog for books available at both Cascades and in Corvallis. Are you in Bend and need a book from Corvalllis? Click the Request button in the catalog record.
Search the Summit Catalog for books available from other academic libraries in Oregon and Washington.
If you need something that you can't find in either catalog, you can order it through Interlibrary Loan .
Library Resources
OSU Libraries webpage designed for eCampus users: http://osulibrary.oregonstate.edu/offcampus/bridge.html
This is your gateway to resources available to you through the Libraries. The chat box on this page will link you to the eCampus librarian, Maureen Kelly. She is an excellent resource for helping you obtain materials!
Of particular use to you will be:
- Anthropology Databases for finding journal articles, and sometimes books and book chapters. Some will be in full-text, others you will need to search for in...
- OSU Libraries Catalog which links you to books, periodicals, government documents...all the materials owned by the library.
- Find Books & Articles provides links to explanations on how to go about finding and getting library materials for your assignment
A subject guide exists for Anthropology. It lists general resources (not just resources for this course).

Abstracts in Anthropology - Abstracts only, but very comprehensive! Check our catalog to see if we own the journal containing the article.
