Example Search Strategies
Looking for ideas on what search terms to use? Try each of these in the databases and catalogs listed:
1. Search your person's name, for example Marie Curie.
2. Search on the technology, invention, field, etc that your person was involved with. For example, curie and radioactivity; history and polonium; history and radium.
3. Searches like "women in science"; "women in physics"; women and physics; "women in engineering" can uncover sources that discuss how women fare in that field.
Find Scholarly Journal Articles
Locating articles: Once you find your citation, you will need to locate the journal to read the article. Some citations will have the full-text of the article available online. For others, click on the Get this item button to see if OSU has a paper copy or an electronic copy of the journal. Get this item will display a link to the OSU Libraries Online Catalog and you can search for the Journal Title. Get this item will also search OSU's E-journal list to determine if the journal is electronic.
If we do not have the journal in paper or electronically, request the article through the Interlibrary Loan service at: http://osulibrary.orst.edu/ill/.
